Description
I used to hate bees. If one ever came near me, I would do a wild, panicked dance, flailing my arms like an out-of-control windmill. I was afraid of them–until I became a beekeeper.
When my bees were shipped to me and I put them in their new hive, they had no honey to feed themselves at first. Until they could make enough of their own honey, I put a jar of sugar water in the hive, turning it upside down in a special holder, with tiny holes punched in the lid of the jar.
Sometimes at night, I’d stand next to the hive and shine a flashlight on them through a little window. As they drank the sugar water, their little bee butts would go up and down, like a tiny Adam’s apple.
I called it Bee TV.
Bees are so good (and so necessary) for the environment. I love these industrious little creatures.
